In a crackdown following Eid ul-Adha, Karachi police arrested 96 individuals for improperly disposing of sacrificial animal carcasses on roads across various districts of the city. This action comes after a ban was imposed by Commissioner Karachi on discarding animal remains in public spaces, aiming to maintain hygiene and public health.
According to police data, the arrests took place in several areas:
- Southern District: 14 individuals were arrested in Eidgah, Garden, Singo Line, and Lyari.
- Korangi District: 16 individuals were detained in the Model Colony area.
- Malir District: 10 people were apprehended near the Quaidabad Flyover and Shah Latif areas.
- Central District: In North Nazimabad, 10 people were arrested; 6 in New Karachi; 3 in Liaquatabad; 3 in Paposh Nagar; 8 on Noor Jahan Highway.
- Western District: 5 arrests were made in Mominabad and 2 in the Kemari area site.
- East District: 5 individuals were detained in Ferozeabad, 9 in Jamshed Quarters Soldier Bazar, and 5 in Gulzar Hijri.
The Commissioner of Karachi had previously banned the disposal of sacrificial animal skins and remains on roads, emphasizing the need for proper waste management during the Eid festivities. This directive aimed to prevent environmental pollution and maintain cleanliness in the city.
Public complaints about the improper disposal of animal remains led to the swift action. The Mayor of Karachi had taken note of these complaints and recommended that the Inspector General of Sindh take stringent measures against the violators.
The police registered cases against all arrested individuals, reinforcing the city’s commitment to upholding public health standards and ensuring a cleaner environment during and after the Eid celebrations.
