Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday announced that the upcoming Independence Day on August 14 would be observed as “Green Pakistan Day” and urged citizens to plant trees as part of the celebrations.

Senator Faisal Javed announced the development on Twitter, saying the prime minister had asked people across the country to plant trees to commemorate Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Javed also encouraged citizens to share photographs of themselves planting trees. He said people should send their pictures to the WhatsApp number designated for their respective areas.
The initiative was announced a day after 13,000 students in Gujranwala reportedly set a world record by planting 50,000 saplings in one minute.
The record had previously been held by India, according to the information shared at the time.
The government’s call to mark Independence Day with tree plantation was linked to efforts to promote environmental awareness and encourage public participation in increasing the country’s green cover.
The announcement came as Pakistan continued to face environmental challenges, including urban pollution, rising temperatures and the effects of climate change.
By encouraging citizens to plant trees as part of the national day celebrations, the government sought to connect Independence Day activities with environmental protection.
