Gulshan blast: building management requests SBCA demolition halt

The apartment management in Gulshan e Iqbal where an explosion took place earlier this week has requested the SBCA authority to halt demolition work raising concerns over possible damage to adjacent buildings.

The blast took place in the building on the Maskan Chowrangi rendering at least two stories of the structure decrepit while claiming lives of at least five people besides injuring dozens.

Building management letter
Building management writes to sbca requesting to defer demolition work until “professional staff” could conduct work, fearing damage to adjacent buildings

The SBCA following the explosion declared the structure dilapidated and ordered its demolition which it said would be completed within three days.

However, the apartment management in its letter to DG SBCA requested the demolition work to stop citing “non-professional” staff assigned to demolition is posing threat to adjoining buildings.

Building management has pleaded in its letter to the building authority to halt demolition work immediately until it could  “assign the professional staff to avoid any further damages to the adjacent blocks”.

It is pertinent to recall that BDS team citing its preliminary reports in the wake of the explosion said that it didn’t find any evidence to imply the blast was caused by explosive material and has suggested it was perhaps triggered by a possible gas leak.
