The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the US Consulate in Karachi have announced a joint initiative to conserve the historic Frere Hall and restore the landmark to its former condition.

The announcement was made on Monday during celebrations marking the 156th anniversary of Frere Hall’s public opening. The Sindh Exploration and Adventure Society (SEAS) will also participate in the restoration project.
US Consul General Mark Stroh said the United States respects Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and described the Frere Hall project as part of its commitment to supporting heritage preservation in Pakistan and Sindh.
“The United States has a deep respect for Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage,” Stroh said, adding that the project demonstrated the US commitment to working with Pakistan and Sindh to preserve the country’s historic heritage.
The US Consulate has previously sanctioned more than $6.4 million for 30 cultural heritage projects across Pakistan, according to the information shared at the event.
Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, who attended the event, announced that renovation and restoration work at Frere Hall would begin soon.
Wahab later thanked the US Consulate for its support for the historic Karachi landmark.
Frere Hall, one of Karachi’s best-known heritage buildings, has long been regarded as an important part of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage. The planned conservation project is aimed at preserving the landmark for future generations while restoring parts of the building and its surroundings.
