The Deputy Commissioners of Jamshoro and Tando Allahyar have approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), seeking postponement of the second phase of Sindh’s local government elections scheduled for August 28.

The officials cited the situation caused by recent rains as the reason for requesting a delay in the municipal elections.
In a letter to the Election Commission, Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner requested that the elections be postponed for 45 days, saying the prevailing weather conditions could create difficulties for the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Tando Allahyar Deputy Commissioner sought a 60-day postponement of the local body elections due to the rain-related situation in the district.
The requests have been sent to the Election Commission for consideration as authorities assess the impact of the weather conditions on election arrangements.
The second phase of Sindh’s local government elections is scheduled to take place on August 28, with several districts set to participate in the electoral process.
The Election Commission will decide whether the elections should be postponed based on the requests submitted by the district administrations and the prevailing ground situation.
The Sindh government introduced the Local Bodies Amendment Bill 2026 in the Sindh Assembly, proposing changes to the existing Local Government Act 2013, including provisions allowing mayor, deputy mayor and chairmen to continue serving as administrators after the expiry of their elected terms.
Sindh Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar presented the bill in the provincial assembly.
A 12-member special committee has been constituted to examine the proposed legislation and submit its report within one week.
