The directive was issued during a Sindh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The chief minister ordered the departments to examine the new sub-variant and assess its possible impact on public health in the province.

Officials have been asked to complete the analysis and submit their findings as soon as possible so that preventive measures can be taken if necessary.

The move comes amid concerns over the rapid spread of the new Omicron sub-variant in several countries.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) had announced on May 9 that Pakistan had detected its first case of the BA.2.12 sub-variant.

The emergence of the new variant has prompted health authorities to monitor its spread and assess whether it could lead to another increase in Covid-19 infections.

The Sindh government’s latest directive is aimed at identifying potential risks in advance and ensuring that the province is prepared to respond to any possible outbreak.
