The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Friday, August 14, 2026, to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, giving residents a three-day weekend.

According to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, the holiday will be observed across government offices and institutions operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government.
The holiday will apply to government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions, corporations and local councils.
However, institutions and departments providing essential and emergency services will remain operational and will be exempt from the holiday.
Three-Day Weekend for Sindh Residents
August 14 falls on a Friday this year. With the regular Saturday and Sunday holidays immediately following it, residents will have three consecutive days off from Friday through Sunday.

The three-day break is expected to provide residents an opportunity to participate in Independence Day celebrations, attend family gatherings and make short trips.
Pakistan’s Independence Day is observed annually on August 14 to commemorate the country’s independence in 1947.
