Cashless transactions have become operational at all passport offices across Pakistan, with the government introducing the facility to make passport services faster and more convenient for citizens.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the development through a post on X, stating that applicants no longer need to stand in long queues or wait for hours to make fee payments at passport offices.
The minister said the initiative was implemented on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, adding that the reform is aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of public service delivery.

“This is another step towards making public services faster, more transparent, and more convenient for our citizens. Many more milestones lie ahead, and, InshaAllah, we will continue to achieve them,” Mohsin Naqvi said.

He also appreciated the efforts of the passport department, congratulating the entire team for successfully implementing the nationwide cashless payment system.
The announcement follows the recent unveiling of a broader digital transformation plan by Director General of Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa, aimed at modernising passport services across the country.
Under the planned reforms, citizens will be able to apply for and renew passports through a mobile application, track the status of their applications online, and access essential passport services directly from their smartphones.

The department is also working to introduce a home delivery service, allowing applicants to receive their passports at their doorstep and reducing the need for multiple visits to passport offices.

Earlier this year, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has finalized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the new initiative, which will allow citizens to receive passports at their homes without visiting passport offices.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Director General Immigration and Passports Muhammad Ali Randhawa.
Officials reviewed progress on the department’s digital transformation, including improvements to the mobile application, online application system, and real-time tracking features.
According to officials, the new passport delivery system will significantly reduce long queues at passport offices and minimize administrative bottlenecks.
