Army condemns ‘malicious’ media campaign after helicopter crash

The army on Friday denounced the disgusting and regrettable social media campaign that followed the tragic helicopter crash on August 1.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claims that the web campaign created “great grief and distress” among the rank and file of the armed personnel and the families of martyrs.

While the entire country supported the school at this trying period, some insensitive individuals turned to nasty and disparaging comments on social media, the statement said.

An army aviation helicopter vanished in Balochistan on Monday night earlier this week.

On board were six people, including Commander 12 Corps Lt Gen Sarfraz, who was overseeing flood relief efforts in Lasbela, Balochistan.

Later, the remains of a military chopper were discovered at Musa Goth, Windar, which is located about 80 kilometres northwest of Karachi.

All six aboard, including Corp Commander XII Corp, were killed in battle (also known as Quetta Corp).

The other five martyrs were crew member Naik Mudassar Fayyaz, both pilots Major Saeed Ahmed and Major Talha Manan, Brigadier Amjad Hanif (whose name had been approved for advancement to major general), Brigadier Muhammad Khalid, and Brigadier Muhammad.

According to preliminary findings, the accident “occurred owing to adverse weather,” the ISPR had stated.
