PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in Karachi from March 25

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that a new westerly weather system will enter Karachi by today, Tuesday evening, with light to moderate rain expected to begin from Wednesday.

According to the PMD, the city is likely to remain partly to mostly cloudy today, with temperatures rising up to 33°C and humidity levels reaching around 88 per cent.

Rainfall is expected in Karachi between March 25 and 29, along with strong winds and thunderstorms during this period.

The same weather system is also likely to bring showers to several districts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Larkana.

The PMD earlier stated that the western weather system will first enter parts of Balochistan on March 24 and is expected to strengthen by the night of March 27.

Under its influence, widespread rain is forecast in various areas of the province.

Karachi has already experienced similar weather conditions recently.

On the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning affected multiple areas of the city, disrupting Eid prayers in several localities.

Areas such as Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar recorded heavy showers, while strong winds and rain were also reported in Scheme 33, Safoora Chowrangi, Sohrab Goth, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, North Karachi, and Buffer Zone.

Other affected areas included Guru Mandir, Lasbela, Liaquatabad, and Nazimabad.

Coastal areas, including Sea View and Clifton, also received rainfall during the spell.

Earlier this month, at least 19 people lost their lives after a powerful thunderstorm with strong winds hit the city, highlighting the potential risks associated with such weather conditions.
