The appointment comes amid growing criticism of the current Sindh Governor, Kamran Tessori, over alleged political activities conducted at the Governor House.

Criticism on Kamran Tessori

Last month, the Sindh Bar Council demanded Tessori’s immediate removal, claiming that political activities at the Governor House violated the Constitution.

In a resolution adopted during the council’s 109th meeting on February 21, it was stated that Tessori’s involvement in politics “proved him unfit for representing the federation.”

Sindhi nationalist leaders also accused Tessori of turning the Governor House into a platform for ethnic politics following an event attended by MQM-P leaders.

Ayaz Latif Palijo called the Governor House a “centre for hatching conspiracies against Sindh and Pakistan,” warning that attempts to undermine Sindh threatened the country’s integrity.

On February 21, Sindh Senior Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon condemned biased speeches delivered during a ceremony at the Governor House, saying such remarks undermined civic harmony and Karachi’s culture of peace.

Nehal Hashmi background

Nehal Hashmi’s membership in PML-N was revoked in 2017 by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after he criticized the judiciary publicly.

Hashmi had resigned from the Senate but later withdrew his resignation. He served as a senator from 2015 to 2021.

Hashmi was convicted of contempt of court in 2018, sentenced to one month in jail, and disqualified from holding public office for five years. During the proceedings, he issued an unconditional apology to the judiciary.
