Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva has formally written to the PCB, urging it to reconsider the match against India during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Sri Lanka Cricket warned that Pakistan’s non-participation in such a marquee match could have serious consequences, including financial losses, reduced tourism revenue, and broader economic impact.

According to international media, Sri Lanka’s hotel and tourism industry has already faced multiple cancellations, directly affecting hotel occupancy projections in Colombo, which were expecting a surge of international visitors for the fixture.

Silva’s letter also stressed the broader implications of a boycott, noting that it could impact not only Sri Lanka Cricket but a range of stakeholders involved in ensuring the tournament’s success.

The letter reminded PCB of past cooperation, mentioning that the Sri Lankan team toured Pakistan under difficult circumstances, including periods of security concerns, and always in the spirit of sportsmanship and mutual respect.

Sri Lanka Cricket emphasized that full assurances regarding security, neutrality, and professionalism have been provided for all matches hosted in the country.

The board concluded by respectfully requesting PCB to participate in all scheduled matches, including the India-Pakistan game, for the benefit of the tournament, stakeholders, and millions of cricket fans worldwide.
