The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K-Electric, Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi, has stepped down from his position following months of controversy linked to harassment allegations made by a former senior employee, confirmed by media reports.
The development comes after prolonged legal and administrative proceedings that kept the issue in the public spotlight.
According to the local media reports, Moonis Alvi had been under severe mental stress for several months due to the allegations and the ongoing inquiry process.
The complaint was filed by K-Electric’s former Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, who accused Alvi and others of harassment, intimidation, mental agony, and creating a hostile work environment during her time at the company.

Moonis Alvi joined K-Electric in 2008 and served in several key positions, including Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury.
He was appointed CEO in 2018 and became one of the most visible faces of the power utility. During his tenure, Alvi led several initiatives, including the widely publicized Roshani Baji programme, aimed at improving community engagement and safety.

The former employee had approached the Sindh High Oversight Authority, headed by retired Justice Shah Nawaz Tariq. The authority initially ordered Alvi’s removal from office and imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million.
Alvi rejected the allegations and announced his intention to challenge the decision through legal means.
The case later reached Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, who overturned the provincial authority’s order dated July 31, 2025. The governor cited ignored evidence and procedural flaws in the earlier ruling.

According to the governor’s order, the complainant had not submitted a written complaint to K-Electric’s internal committees or any relevant authority before filing the case. It also stated that the chat records provided did not support many of the allegations.
The order further recorded Alvi’s stance that the former employee was asked to resign following a decision by the company’s Board HR Committee due to performance-related concerns.
The complainant, however, maintained that her termination was directly linked to her allegations against senior management.
K-Electric has not yet issued an official statement on Alvi’s resignation or announced an interim replacement.
