The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in Karachi and several parts of Sindh, as a new weather system is expected to affect large parts of the country in the coming days.

According to the Met Office, a shallow westerly wave is likely to enter the upper regions of Pakistan from January 16 and may persist until January 19.

The system is expected to strengthen further from January 20, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall to many areas across the country from January 21 onward.

PMD said that between January 16 (evening/night) and January 19, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, along with light to moderate snowfall, is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with occasional breaks.

From January 20 to January 23, the weather system is expected to intensify, resulting in widespread rain and thunderstorms in GB, AJK, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, the Potohar region, and several districts of Punjab and KP.

The Met Office also warned that intermittent rain with strong winds and thunder is likely in various districts of Balochistan on January 21 and 22.

In Sindh, rain is expected on January 22 and 23, affecting Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Naushahro Feroze, Kashmore, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, and Ghotki.

PMD cautioned that heavy snowfall in mountainous regions from January 20 (night) to January 23 may lead to road closures, slippery conditions, landslides, and avalanches.

Tourists and travelers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious during this period.
