Karachi traffic problems will be addressed through a newly formed company, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced, aiming to improve coordination among departments and introduce long-term traffic engineering solutions across the city.

Speaking to media in Karachi, Murtaza Wahab said that the official notification for the company has already been issued, marking a structural shift in how Karachi traffic management will operate.

Sharing his plan to media, Murtaza Wahab stated that the Mayor Karachi, will serve as the head of the company, while the Commissioner of the city will act as vice chairman.

The Deputy Inspector General of Traffic will also be included to strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies.

According to the mayor, a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be appointed from the private sector to bring professional expertise.

In the first phase, authorities have decided to restore Karachi’s dysfunctional traffic signals, which have contributed significantly to congestion and road safety issues.

Approval for the formation of the company has already been granted by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and funding for the new company has also been released, the mayor confirmed during his press conference.

Murtaza Wahab said the company is expected to be formally established within the next two to three months.

Once operational, the company will focus on identifying traffic bottlenecks across Karachi that routinely cause congestion and delays for commuters.

He explained that these problem areas will be resolved using modern traffic engineering solutions rather than temporary or reactive measures.

The mayor stressed that poor coordination among departments has long hindered traffic planning, a gap the new company aims to eliminate.
