Pakistan Army strengthened their dominance at the 35th National Games on Tuesday, crossing the 50-gold milestone as competition across athletics, swimming, fencing and wrestling gathered pace throughout the city.
According to officials, it was one of the busiest days of the event, with 12 athletics finals taking place at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) facility.
Army’s Faryal Farooq produced one of the day’s top moments, landing a record-breaking 38.21-metre throw to win the women’s discus title.

“This record was my target all year,” she said after securing the gold medal.
WAPDA’s Fatima Hussain continued her strong run in the women’s javelin with a 42.38-metre throw to claim another gold for her department, while Faiqa Riaz sprinted to her second gold of the Games by winning the women’s 200 metres.
WAPDA’s Iram Shehzadi took the top spot in the women’s 800 metres.
In hurdles, WAPDA’s Musarrat Shaheen clinched the women’s 400m title, and Army’s Mohammad Naeem won gold in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Army also added to their tally in other track and field events.
Qasim Faiz claimed the men’s 20km race walk, Asif secured victory in the pole vault, and Waqas Akbar emerged on top in the men’s 800 metres.
In the women’s 5km walk, WAPDA’s Amara finished first, while HEC’s Ummat-ur-Rehman won the triple jump.
Weightlifting started at Scout Headquarters, where four women’s events were decided.
Gold medals went to WAPDA’s Shafaq Waheed (48kg), and Army’s Nida Fatima (53kg), Arjumand Khan (58kg) and Noor Fatima (63kg).
HEC picked up a fencing gold after Karima Parveen defeated teammate Faryal Shahid 15-13 in the women’s event.

Wrestling opened with Pakistan’s star grappler Inam Butt taking gold on day one.
WAPDA’s Junaid (57kg), Army’s Asadullah (79kg) and Punjab’s Abdullah (70kg) also won their categories.
In squash, Pakistan Army secured both the men’s and women’s team titles, beating WAPDA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively.
The swimming pool delivered more success for Army, who won five women’s gold medals, while Sindh’s Hareem Malik added another for her province.
Army also picked up five golds in men’s swimming, with WAPDA earning one.
In shooting, Army pushed their gold tally to 11, followed by Navy on nine.
Islamabad finally got on the medals table when their women’s tennis team defeated WAPDA 2-1 to secure the capital’s first gold of the Games.
By the end of the day, Pakistan Army topped the standings with 71 gold, 29 silver and 18 bronze medals.
WAPDA remained in second place with 27 golds, while Pakistan Navy held third with 10.
