Getting a new electricity connection in Karachi is now more convenient, allowing consumers to apply online without leaving their homes.

K-Electric has introduced a more streamlined system for new connections, enabling consumers to obtain an electricity meter in just 15 days, provided all requirements are met.

The following guide outlines the official procedure and essential documents needed for a smooth application process.

Step 1: Submitting the Application

Applicants can begin the process either online through the KE website or by visiting any KE Customer Care Centre. Guidance is also available through the utility’s helpline at 118. Those seeking a meter below 80 kW are advised to select the Asaan Meter category to hasten the process.

Step 2: Preparing the Required Documents

  • Company letterhead applications
  • Business registration or NTN details
  • Organizational NOCs

The checklist released by K-Electric is designed to help applicants avoid delays caused by incomplete submissions. The consumers can download the complete checklist according to their connection requirements.

Step 3: Site Survey

Once the application is received, KE dispatches a team for a site inspection within five working days. The survey determines whether the premises meets technical and safety requirements for a new electricity connection.

K-Electric consumers can check the feeders’ names and power outage durations here.

Step 4: Issuance of Cost Estimate

If the site survey is approved, KE prepares an official estimate covering the cost of installation. This estimate is typically issued within two days. Applicants are cautioned to rely only on official KE correspondence for cost details.

Step 5: Payment Through Official Channels

Consumers must pay the issued estimate using KE’s designated payment methods. The utility reiterates that no field staff or employee is authorized to receive payments directly, urging applicants to report any such attempts.

Step 6: Internal and External Wiring Compliance

Where additional wiring is required, applicants must submit an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC). Wiring must be completed by a qualified professional, after which KE inspects the installation to confirm compliance with safety standards.
