The Karachi administration has imposed a strict ban on rickshaw movement on six more roads after which the total score reached twenty-six major routes to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi issued the order under Section 144, adding six new highways to the previously restricted twenty highways already operating under the rickshaw movement prohibition.

Officials confirmed that the newly included routes cover:

  • Shahra-e-Faisal from Malir Halt to Quaidabad
  • National Highway from Quaidabad to Ghaghar Phatak
  • Masan Road from KPT Post Office to Shireen Jinnah Colony.
  • Nawab Mohabbat Khan Ji Road from Khoja Jamat Khana to Lea Market
  • Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road from Board Office to Namisee
  • M-9 Motorway stretch from Sohrab Goth to the Toll Plaza

The earlier notified twenty restricted routes include Shahra-e-Faisal from Awari Light Signal to Madam Apartment and II Chundrigar Road from Tower to Shaheen Complex in the city’s commercial district.

Authorities say the ban is being enforced from October 18 to December 17, and violations will lead to strict action, including registration of cases under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The administration maintains the decision is aimed at avoiding traffic pressure, ensuring smooth movement of vehicles, and reducing the increasing number of road accidents caused by congested rickshaw activity in Karachi.

Traffic officials have instructed all SHOs to ensure full compliance and take immediate action against violators, as the restricted roads are among the busiest corridors connecting residential and commercial areas.
