Karachi residents are bracing for colder, quieter nights this winter after Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced that homes in Sindh will remain without gas daily from 10 pm to 5 am to manage a worsening supply shortage.
According to Dawn news, the utility has introduced the nighttime shutdown under its seasonal load-management strategy, which follows the guidelines approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
Officials say the company is operating with far less gas than expected this year, forcing it to make difficult adjustments.

SSGC spokesperson explained that the utility had not originally planned any load-shedding for domestic users in Sindh or Balochistan but the sudden drop in supply has made the seven-hour nightly closure unavoidable, as the system needs time to rebuild line-pack pressure for the next day’s household consumption.
The shortage will also affect transport users.
According to the official, the CNG sector will face periodic weekly shutdowns as part of the broader conservation effort designed to stretch limited resources through the winter.

SSGC has advised consumers to plan ahead for the nightly gap and remain prepared for further changes as temperatures fall and demand continues to rise.
