A Karachi student’s guide to getting the Pfizer vaccine

The government has recently made it mandatory for 17-year-old to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. Immunocompromised individuals between the ages of 12 and 17 are also to be vaccinated.

After October 15, unvaccinated students won’t be allowed to enter campuses. The government has allowed 17-year-old students to be administered the Pfizer vaccine for free. Immunocompromised 12 to 17-year-olds can also get the Pfizer jab for free as long as they have medical proof of their illness.

Inoculation centres open round the clock include:

  • Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre – 021-99201300

  • Dow University of Health Sciences, Ojha Campus – 021-99232660 and 38771111

  • Sindh Government Children Hospital, North Nazimabad – 021-34999181-5

Students wishing to get inoculated must carry their NADRA issued birth certificate or passport with them when they go to the vaccination centre

.

Students do not need to text 1166 to get vaccinated, they can walk into any centre and get their jab.

The plan for mobile immunisation centres being set up at various institutions in the city is yet to be materialised.

The National Command and Operation Centre’s SOPs for the inoculation of students between ages 15 and 17 are as following:

  • Immunocompromised individuals of 12 to 17 years will be administered the Pfizer vaccine

  • Individuals will be required to produce medical documents as proof of being immunocompromised

  • The general public age group for vaccination has been lowered to 17 years.

  • Pfizer vaccine will be administered to students under the age of 18 years

  • For people below the age of 18 years, the Child Registration Certificate (B- Form) number will be used for registration in NIMS (National Immunisation Management System)
