In a bid to address the long-standing issues related to the Natha Khan Bridge, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced the construction of a major road and drainage system.
KMC, in its official social media channel, stated that the new infrastructure tender would be made available via its EPADS electronic procurement system.
According to the officials according to officials, authorities from the Engineering Department invited qualified contractors to submit bids through the Single-Stage, Two-Envelope Method.

The bids focus on strengthening important road links and drainage structures throughout Karachi.
The first stage involves constructing the Natha Khan Bridge approach road as well as a constructed concrete reinforced culvert.
The project also includes the connecting road that runs from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Habib University, under Phases I and II.
A formal KMC report estimated the cost for this huge project at around $. 779.99 million with the project aims to improve connectivity, lessen congestion, and facilitate smoother circulation of traffic.
The second one focuses on the reconstruction of Jhangir Road alongside the stormwater drain which runs from Gurumandir through Teen Hatti.
The authorities said that the development will substantially increase drainage and road quality throughout the area.
The drainage project is planned with an estimated cost of the amount of Rs. 297.42 million, and will focus on reducing the risk of flooding in urban areas.
The project also seeks to improve the condition of roads that need urgent repair.

Both tenders require contractors interested to provide an amount of five percent bid security and a non-refundable cost for tender of Rs. 5,000. Bidding must be in line with EPADS guidelines with no exemptions.
Contractors must make sure bid securities are made available from the accounts of their company and are delivered both physically and via online through the EPADS portal. The notice also requires bids to be written in a precise manner using words and numbers.
KMC has made it mandatory that contractors sign an integrity pact that is stamped at Rs. 200. Officials say this will increase the transparency of procurement and deters unfair practices in the procurement process.

Conditions of eligibility include CNIC copies, pertinent PEC registrations, as well as active NTN or SRB certificates. Contractors also need to provide professional tax documentation and electrical licenses to specific engineering equipment.
Participants are also required to provide a construction plan according the Appendix E instructions. Officials said that incorrect or incomplete documents can result in being disqualified from bidders.
