Pakistan has successfully launched its first Hyperspectral Satellite (HS-1) from the Chinese Satellite Launch Centre, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced on Sunday.

Equipped with advanced hyperspectral imaging technology, the HS-1 satellite can capture high-resolution data across hundreds of spectral bands, enabling detailed observation of land use, vegetation health, water resources, and urban expansion.

According to SUPARCO, HS-1 will play a vital role in precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster management, helping Pakistan manage resources efficiently and strengthen resilience against climate change.

The new satellite will also support national development initiatives, particularly those linked to the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), by assisting in geo-hazard assessment and the planning of sustainable infrastructure projects.

Officials said the launch reflects Pakistan’s growing space capabilities and its commitment to harnessing space technology for socio-economic progress.
