The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has written emergency letters to Sindh’s top officials, demanding immediate and effective measures to address the city’s worsening post-rain situation.
In its letter, the Chamber urged the Sindh Chief Minister, Karachi Mayor, Commissioner, and Chief Secretary to adopt a joint strategy to tackle the ongoing urban flooding challenges during the monsoon.
The Chamber highlighted that citizens across Karachi are struggling with blocked drains and water accumulation. It called on provincial and local bodies to accelerate drainage operations to restore normal conditions quickly.
KCCI President Javed Balwani stated that heavy rains have severely disrupted commercial activities. He emphasized that cleaning in Gujjar Nallah, Manzoor Colony Nallah, and Lyari Nallah must be carried out more efficiently.

Balwani stressed that only proactive, timely measures can limit the impact of monsoon rains on businesses and daily life. Delays in action, he warned, could further worsen the crisis.
The Chamber suggested that the cleanliness drive should begin from areas where sewage and rainwater enter the main drainage system. This would prevent blockages and reduce urban flooding incidents.
It also recommended activating emergency response teams throughout the city. Such teams, the Chamber said, would help provide quick solutions and maintain citywide functioning during rain-related emergencies.
According to the letter, inadequate preparation and slow response aggravated Karachi’s post-rain difficulties. The Chamber expressed disappointment that preventive steps were not taken ahead of the expected heavy monsoon spell.
Business leaders warned that if authorities fail to act effectively, trade and commercial hubs will continue to suffer losses, adding further stress to Karachi’s already fragile economic environment.
