Cantonment Board Faisal (CBF) has released a list of 63 dilapidated residential buildings in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Drigh Road areas of Karachi after a structural safety survey.

The survey highlights that Block 19 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar has the highest number of unsafe buildings, with 12 structures marked as severely damaged and needing urgent attention.

In Block 12 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, five residential buildings were declared hazardous. Block 13 has six such buildings, while two were marked in Block 14, and one in Block 9.

Block 17 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar has six dangerous buildings, while five buildings in Block 18 also pose serious safety risks. The board is urging prompt action to avoid future tragedies.

Block 20 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar has four residential blocks marked as extremely dangerous, the board added. In addition, 19 unsafe buildings were identified along the busy Drug Road area.

CBF Spokesperson said affected residents must hire a structural engineer and submit an inspection report within seven days. Failure to comply may lead to forced evacuation and legal action.

Immediate evacuation of the declared buildings has been ordered by the Cantonment Board. These measures aim to prevent accidents and potential loss of life due to structural collapses.

The board emphasized that public safety is their top priority. Residents have been asked to cooperate with the administration and not delay relocation from these unsafe premises.

Officials said the survey was part of routine inspections, especially during monsoon season, when weak buildings are at high risk of collapse due to heavy rain and water damage.
