Pakistan to train 45,000 AI engineers in 3 years

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has announced an aspiring plan to train 45,000 engineers in Artificial Intelligence (AI) over the next three years.

The goal is to prepare the country’s engineering workforce for the growing demands of the digital economy.

The announcement was made at the conclusion of PEC’s second Generative AI training course.

The course is part of PEC’s broader initiative to integrate AI education into engineering and technical fields across Pakistan.

According to PEC officials, the training will equip engineers with practical skills in AI, machine learning, and data-driven technologies.

These skills are becoming increasingly important in fields such as civil, electrical, mechanical, and software engineering.

Speaking at the event, PEC Chairman Engr. Najeeb Haroon said the initiative is aimed at building national capacity in emerging technologies and ensuring that Pakistani engineers remain competitive on a global level. “AI is the future, and our engineers must be ready to lead in this space,” he stated.

The training programs will be conducted in partnership with universities, industry experts, and tech organizations. The focus will be on hands-on learning, real-world applications, and creating solutions relevant to Pakistan’s development needs.

This initiative also aligns with the government’s broader push towards digital transformation and innovation in the public and private sectors.

Participants of the recently concluded Generative AI course praised PEC’s efforts, calling the training timely and essential for their careers.

By targeting 45,000 engineers over the next three years, PEC hopes to create a strong foundation for technological advancement and economic growth in the country.

The council plans to continue expanding its AI curriculum and launching more advanced courses in the near future.
