Pakistan’s standing in the latest ICC Test rankings has experienced a decline, with several players dropping in their respective categories due to a lack of upcoming red-ball matches.
The team is set to focus solely on white-ball cricket over the next two months, with series scheduled against Bangladesh and the West Indies, which is likely to contribute to further stagnation or decline in rankings.
They will start their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 campaign with a home series against South Africa in October–November.
Currently, no Pakistani batter is featured in the top 10 Test batters list. Saud Shakeel has slipped to 11th place, while Mohammad Rizwan has fallen to 19th. Former captain Babar Azam, who previously held a top-five position, remains at 22nd. T20I skipper Salman Ali Agha is ranked 33rd, and Shan Masood has made a slight improvement, moving up three places to occupy the 44th spot.
In the bowling department, left-arm spinner Nauman Ali has dropped one place but remains within the top five, now ranked fifth with 806 rating points. Sajid Khan and pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi have maintained their positions at 20th and 21st, respectively. Mohammad Abbas has moved up one place to 26th, while Naseem Shah has climbed to 34th. However, mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has slipped to 48th with 409 points.
The Test all-rounders rankings have also seen changes, with Nauman Ali dropping to 18th place. Sajid Khan has slipped three places to 31st, and Aamer Jamal has faced the most significant drop, sliding four spots to 41st.
Overall, the current situation reflects the challenges faced by the Pakistani team in maintaining their rankings amidst a schedule focused on limited-overs formats.
