Khawaja Nafay Reflects on Intense NCA Training and Mentorship

The second phase of the National Cricket Academy’s Skills Development camp, involving 15 players, will conclude this Saturday in Lahore.

The intensive six-day training program began on 23rd June, focusing on enhancing players’ technical and tactical abilities.

Emerging player Khawaja Mohammad Nafay shared insights into the demanding schedule, revealing, “We wake up at 4:30 am and begin our sessions by 6 am.” He particularly praised former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq’s contributions, noting, “We’ve learned significantly about power hitting from Abdul Razzaq, and the specialized sessions against spin bowling have noticeably improved our skillset.”

Highlighting the evolving demands of contemporary cricket, Nafay emphasized, “Today’s game requires players to fulfill multiple roles.” The coaches have identified his potential as a wicketkeeper-batter, prompting dedicated work on his glovework. “The support staff is helping me develop these additional skills to make me more valuable to the team,” he added.

Recalling his time with Quetta Gladiators in the PSL, Nafay shared valuable lessons from West Indies icon Sir Viv Richards: “After studying his batting footage, we asked about his approach. His emphasis on self-belief as the foundation of his success left a lasting impression on all of us.”

With his sights set on national team selection, Nafay stated, “My goal is to consistently contribute across all formats while staying true to my natural game. The coaches have prepared us thoroughly for upcoming challenges.” The development program will continue with its third phase running from 30th June to 5th July at the same venue, maintaining Pakistan’s focus on nurturing emerging talent.
