Pakistani students again secured the highest number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships in the world for 2025.

A total of 114 students from Pakistan have won the Erasmus+ Joint Masters scholarships, funded by the European Union.

This year also marks a historic achievement for gender equality, as 66 of the 114 selected students are women – making up almost 58 percent of the total Pakistani awardees.

These prestigious scholarships allow students to study in multiple European countries, with all costs covered, including tuition fees, travel, visa, and living expenses.

The programme offers an international experience, including joint research, internships, and a final thesis supervised by different universities.

In total, 2,176 students from 137 countries were selected for 2025. Pakistan ranked first, followed by India (96), Bangladesh (95), Mexico (93), Nigeria (75), and Brazil (73). This shows strong academic talent from the Global South.

Last year, in 2024, Pakistan had secured 189 scholarships, including 100 male, 88 female, and 1 non-binary student.

The EU Delegation in Islamabad praised this year’s result, calling it a “proud moment” and a sign of Pakistan’s rising academic performance internationally. They also highlighted the growing inclusion of women in higher education through such global programmes.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programme is known for being extremely competitive, with students selected for their strong academic background, leadership, and motivation. Pakistan’s continued success shows its youth are ready to excel on the world stage.
