Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has imposed a complete ban on swimming, bathing, and public gatherings in Hub Canal for one month.
The ban, starting from June 17 to July 16, 2025, under Section 144, was imposed after a request from Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, CEO of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).
The CEO of KWSC raised serious concerns over the rising number of drowning incidents and unauthorized activities around the canal.
According to the official notification, the ban was enforced to ensure public safety and to protect vital water infrastructure from illegal use and damage.
The spokesperson for the commissioner said that the decision was aimed at saving precious lives following frequent drowning cases reported in recent weeks.
The canal, which plays a crucial role in Karachi’s water distribution, has seen reckless use for swimming and bathing during the summer heat.
Authorities emphasized that all unauthorized or public activities in and around the Hub Canal area are now strictly prohibited.
The ban includes individual and group bathing, swimming, gatherings, and any events that could put lives or infrastructure at risk.
The notification further stated that violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), and strict instructions have been issued to all SHOs in the area to register cases against anyone found violating the order.
