The Pakistani government had earlier announced the gazetted holidays for 2025 through a notification by the Cabinet Division on December 23, 2024.
As per the notification, Eid ul Adha is set to be celebrated on June 7, 8, and 9, 2025, with three public holidays declared by the federal government.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has since confirmed the start of Zil Hajj, declaring May 29 as the first day, which aligns with Eid ul Adha falling on June 7.
The committee’s chairman, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, made the announcement after a meeting in Islamabad attended by representatives from SUPARCO and the Meteorological Department.

Although the current schedule has the holidays on Saturday and Sunday, which might disappoint those looking forward to a long weekend, there is still a possibility that the government might declare an additional holiday on Friday.
This potential adjustment would accommodate the significance of Hajj day and provide a longer break for the public to celebrate Eid ul Adha with family and friends.
Earlier, SUPARCO predicted the new moon of Zil Hajj to be born on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 8:02 AM PST, but added that it would be too young to be sighted on the same day, even with telescopes.
With the 1st Zil Hajj expected on May 29, Eid ul Adha is predicted to fall on Saturday, June 7, aligning with the official holiday forecast and religious calendar.
