HEC warns public about fraudulent websites, scams

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued an alert, warning the public about scammers using fake websites and impersonating officials to steal personal information.

In a post shared on social media platform X, the HEC released a short video and warned that it never asks for OTPs, passwords, or bank details.

“Public Alert: Scammers are impersonating HEC & using fake sites to steal info. HEC never asks for OTPs, passwords, or bank details. Report suspicious activity to us,” HEC wrote.

The commission clarified that it does not call people for attestation payments or request sensitive banking information in any form, whether through email, SMS, or phone.

Citizens were strongly urged to avoid sharing personal or financial details with anyone claiming to be from HEC or demanding private data over the phone.

The HEC highlighted that it has only one official website where all authentic information and services are made available to students and institutions.

Fake websites and scam calls have recently increased, with scammers using official-looking platforms to mislead users and collect sensitive data for fraud.

HEC urged the public to stay cautious and immediately report suspicious websites or calls to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) or the National Response Centre for Cyber Crime.
