The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revived its Point of Sale (POS) prize scheme, offering cash rewards to customers who help combat tax evasion by reporting fake receipts.
How the FBR POS scheme works
The scheme encourages shoppers to make purchases at FBR-registered businesses connected to the authority’s digital network. In return, participants stand a chance to win cash rewards ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 every month through a lucky draw.
Shop at FBR – Registered stores
To participate, customers must shop at tier-one retailers and restaurants that are integrated with the FBR system. Only these businesses qualify for the prize scheme.
Look for the QR Code
Ensure that the receipt you receive has a QR code. This code indicates that the retailer is linked to FBR’s computerized system, making the invoice valid.
Verify Receipt Using Tax Easy App
Use the Tax Easy mobile app to scan the QR code on the receipt. This will confirm whether the invoice is legitimate. If the receipt is valid, you’re eligible for the prize.
Report Fake Receipts
If the shopkeeper provides you with a handwritten or plain receipt, refuse it.
Take a clear photo of the suspicious receipt and include the shop or restaurant’s name and location. Then, upload these details on the Tax Easy app for investigation.
Prize Categories
The scheme offers the following prize categories for valid purchases:
- Rs. 10,000 for purchases up to Rs. 5,000
- Rs. 20,000 for purchases above Rs. 5,000
Winners are selected through a computerized lucky draw every month.
This initiative aims to reduce tax evasion by encouraging customers to report fake invoices. It also promotes transparency and ensures that businesses comply with the FBR’s tax regulations.
Through this program, the FBR hopes to foster greater accountability within the retail sector.
