Karachi to face Rs 15,000 fine for one-way traffic violations

One-way traffic fine Karachi

In a move to improve road discipline, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) shared its plans to enforce Rs 15,000 fine on drivers violating one-way traffic rules in the metropolis.

The proposal, part of a new traffic safety initiative, is expected to be formally approved at the upcoming city council session.

The plan will be implemented by city wardens under the supervision of Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and the Karachi Task Force.

The fine is being introduced in response to rising incidents of wrong-way driving, which often result in fatal road accidents.

Mayor Wahab stressed the importance of strong enforcement, saying, “Strict measures are essential for better traffic management and preventing accidents in Karachi.”

He added that public support is crucial in ensuring the success of the new rules. “We urge all citizens to follow traffic laws and work with traffic authorities for a smoother and safer commute.”

The proposed Rs 15,000 penalty is one of the highest yet for traffic violations in Karachi, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to reckless driving behavior.

The KMC believes that such a deterrent will significantly reduce the number of one-way violations, especially on major roads in Karachi.

If the city council approves the fine, authorities plan an awareness campaign before launching full-scale enforcement.

A day earlier, KMC also proposed a municipal tax increase that would affect residents based on their monthly electricity consumption.

The proposal, which aims to generate more revenue for improving urban services, will be presented in the upcoming City Council meeting for approval.

According to KMC officials, the revision in charges is meant to enhance facilities and infrastructure across the city.

The proposal suggests that the collected funds will go directly into urban development projects, including waste management, road maintenance, and water services.
