After a five-year suspension, Pakistan Railways has announced the revival of the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express – from Karachi to Peshawar.
The service, which was halted in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is set to resume operations by the end of April 2025.
The Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, train numbers 19 Up and 20 Down, will once again run between Karachi and Peshawar. It is known for its unique route, as it is the only passenger train that travels from Kotri Junction to Attock City Junction via the country’s second main line, ML-2.

This route takes the train through Karachi City, Kotri, Dadu, Larkana, and Jacobabad, before continuing on to Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, and ultimately reaching Peshawar Cantt.
The train’s restoration will reconnect several underserved regions and improve accessibility for passengers across Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
