Sindh ban Qingqi rickshaws Karachi

Sindh authorities have begun enforcing a phased ban on Qingqi rickshaws in Karachi to tackle traffic congestion and rising road accidents.

The decision, made in a meeting chaired by the Inspector General of Police, restricts Qingqi rickshaws from entering five major roads.

The prohibited routes include Shaheen Complex to Tower via II Chundrigar Road, Metropole intersection to Star Gate on Sharea Faisal, Lily intersection to Submarine Underpass on Khaliq uz Zaman Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Liaquatabad No 10 Gharibabad to National Stadium and Drigh Road till Sohrab Goth on Rashid Minhas Road.

This move follows alarming statistics of 207 deaths and 2,623 injuries in road accidents this year.

Authorities have already banned unregistered vehicles and restricted dumper truck operations to nighttime hours.

Under new traffic rules, strict action will be taken against motorcycle riders without helmets, defective lights, or missing number plates. Motorcyclists must also stay in the left lane or face fines.

Additionally, all vehicles must install GPS trackers, dashcams, and rearview cameras for accident analysis.

Traffic monitoring systems, including speed and lane-monitoring cameras, will help identify violators, with repeat offenders facing an additional Rs2,500 fine.
