Mustafa Amir, missing, Karachi, high-profile, murder case

Karachi police made progress in the case of 23-year-old Mustafa Amir who left home on the evening of January 06, 2025, from the Defense area of the city, and never returned home.

On January 19, Times of Karachi issued a missing alert after contacting the mother which was later picked up by the electronic and conventional media.

The victim’s mother, Wajiha Amir, filed a missing person report at Darakhshan police station after which the authorities started searching for Mustafa.

Despite Wajiha’s relentless efforts to find her son, including searching several police stations and speaking to his friends, there was no trace of Mustafa.

The police, initially treated the case as a routine disappearance, while the victim’s mother felt something was wrong as she noticed an unsettling pattern in her son’s life, particularly involving his friend Armaghan, whom she had suspected from the start.

Ransom Call:

On January 25, Wajiha received a ransom call from an American number demanding money for Mustafa’s safe return. This alarming call shifted the case from a simple missing person file to a kidnapping for ransom investigation.

The case was promptly transferred to the CIA’s Anti-Violent Crime Cell.

The ransom call, though deeply distressing, gave the police a crucial lead and pointed the involvement of Mustafa’s close friend, Armaghan.

Raid on Armaghan’s home:

On February 8, the CIA police acted on their suspicions and raided Armaghan’s home in Karachi’s Defense area, where the accused opened fire on the police party leaving two officers, including a DSP, injured.

Despite the resistance, Armaghan was taken into custody and a case was filed against him on February 10.

The police also recovered some crucial evidence – including Mustafa’s mobile phone, several modern automatic rifles, and over 60 laptops – during the house raid, which became the key evidence linking Armaghan to being involved in illicit activities beyond his involvement in Mustafa’s disappearance.

Meanwhile, the rumors suggest that the accused Armaghan is involved in cryptocurrency scams and operating a call center which added layers to his criminal profile.

During the raid, the authorities also took some blood samples from the stains on the carpet, hinting that something violent had happened inside the house.

Later the DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider confirmed that the DNA of the blood sample found at the house of accused Armaghan in Defense matched that of Mustafa’s mother.

Police Confirms Murder:

On February 14, the DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider confirmed in his media talk that the CIA and CPLC jointly investigated and found evidence that Mustafa Amir who went missing on January 06 was murdered.

After arresting Armaghan, the police managed to arrest another accused Sheeraz – an alleged accomplice who reportedly was involved in Mustafa’s crime.

According to Shiraz’s testimony, Armaghan and Mustafa’s dispute escalated after Mustafa arrived at Armaghan’s home on the night of January 6.

The heated argument turned violent, with Armaghan allegedly torturing Mustafa with a rod, placing him on his car trunk, and both the accused drove the car in the Hub area of Balochistan in an attempt to destroy the evidence and set the vehicle along with Mustafa’s body on fire.

Body Found:

It is worth mentioning here that on January 11, an FIR was already registered in the Dreji police station for the burning of an unknown vehicle, with a body in its trunk, the Balochistan police handed over the body to Edhi, who buried it, considering it abandoned.

On February 14, the CIA police obtained CCTV footage of the vehicle being taken to Hub, in which the vehicle was identified as Mustafa’s vehicle.

Faisal Edhi Revels Shocking Details:

The head of the Edhi Foundation, Faisal Edhi, in his statement, revealed shocking details stating that only the torso of Mustafa Amir’s body was found, while the neck, hands, and feet were missing.

Edhi further confirmed that the burial was held on January 16, on the other hand, the investigation and the work of exhuming the grave is underway.

The spokesperson stated that further action would be taken after contacting the police and the heirs.

Mother Alleged Girl’s Involvement:

In a recent video statement recorded on February 13, the mother of the deceased urged higher authorities to expedite the process of finding her son, as the accused is already in custody.

In her latest statement, Mustafa’s mother also accused the involvement of a girl in the gruesome murder of her son.

According to Wajiha Amir, the girl in a relationship with her son for the past four years planning his killing with Armaghan.

The deceased’s mother further added that Armaghan told Marsha on January 9 that Mustafa had been killed, while when the police called Marsha for questioning, she fled to the United States.

Police Confirm Involvement of Girl:

The investigating officer confirmed that Armaghan and Mustafa had a dispute over a girl on New Year’s Eve. The girl left for abroad on January 12, and Interpol is being contacted for further investigation as the girl’s statement might be crucial for this case.

Sheeraz Confessed to Crime before Judge:

The accused Shiraz was presented before the judge on February 15, where he confessed to his involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Mustafa Amir during a hearing at the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi.

The Gizri police presented Shiraz, who had been arrested in connection with the case, before the court.

Shiraz admitted his role in the crime before the judge, explaining that he along with Armaghan tortured Mustafa at a house in the Defense area. Afterward, they placed him in his own car and took him to Hub, where the crime was further carried out.

The court has ordered a progress report of the case to be presented at the next hearing.

During a recent hearing of the Mustafa Amir murder case at the ATC, the father of the main accused, Armaghan, caused a scene by attempting to forcefully enter the judge’s chamber.

Kamran Qureshi, the father of Armaghan, loudly protested and insisted on meeting the judge, claiming his son’s case was ongoing.

Qureshi also pushed and verbally abused police constable Rizwan. The disruption led to the intervention of police and Rangers to maintain order.

Later, as the accused Sheeraz left the court, Armaghan’s father again attempted to approach him, making noise and trying to speak with him. Kamran Qureshi was heard saying, “Sheeraz, you met me in court on the 10th,” but the police stopped him from engaging with the accused.

SHO Suspended:

DIG South suspended SHO Darakhshan Agha Rasheed, SIO Zulfiqar, and investigation officer ASI Iftikhar for an alleged negligence in the kidnapping and murder case of Mustafa Amir in Karachi.

The three officers were accused of failing to show any seriousness in handling the case after it was registered on January 7.
