Google Wallet set to launch in Pakistan soon

Google is preparing to launch its mobile payment system, Google Wallet (also known as Google Pay), in Pakistan soon, marking a significant step forward for digital payments in the country.

Google announced the expansion of Google Wallet to 16 countries, including Pakistan in January 2025, on its developer page. Other countries such as Egypt and Venezuela will also see the launch of the service in the same period.

Launched in 2011, Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows users to store and manage their debit and credit card details securely, enables users to make payments directly from their Android phones.

In addition to payment cards, Google Wallet can store boarding passes, event tickets, identity cards, and other important documents – essentially everything typically carried in a traditional wallet.

To use Google Wallet, users need to install the app, log in with their Google account, and add a payment method (such as a credit or debit card). Once set up, users can make mobile payments in stores through Google Wallet.

Google Wallet offers enhanced security compared to traditional credit or debit card use.

Payments made through Google Wallet are encrypted, meaning payment details are sent using a unique code for each transaction.

This system makes it difficult for anyone who gains unauthorized access to the payment data, as it does not contain any sensitive card information.

The service also supports contactless payments, allowing users to pay directly from their smartphones without the need to carry physical cards.
