Karachi: Anti-encroachment drive set to begin in district central

Karachi anti-encroachment campaign

Following a high-level meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, authorities in Karachi’s Central district are gearing up for an anti-encroachment campaign.

Deputy Commissioner Taha Saleem chaired the meeting, attended by Assistant Commissioners, Municipal and Anti-Encroachment Police officials, and other stakeholders.

A strict action plan was finalized to address the growing issue of encroachments and roadside vendors in the district.

The administration emphasized that restaurants and hotels extending their operations beyond designated boundaries would face strict action, and encroachments in public spaces would be promptly cleared.

“Residents of District Central are enduring mental distress due to roadside vendors, fruit stalls, and makeshift rickshaw stands obstructing public areas,” said DC Taha Saleem.

To enforce the plan, anti-encroachment operations will be carried out six days a week, with authorities warning of departmental action against officers displaying negligence or leniency.

Night operations will also be intensified, and surveillance cameras will be installed in department yards to monitor activities, with direct access provided to Assistant Commissioners.
