Champions Trophy 2025: PCB reaches out to ICC, rejects hybrid model

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has penned down a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), asserting its stance against hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid model following India’s decision.

According to ARY News, the PCB wrote to the ICC, detailing the government’s firm position on the matter and rejecting the option for India to play its matches in the UAE.

Sources indicate that the PCB’s letter made clear that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan, Pakistan will not engage in any future matches with India at alternative venues.

The PCB’s stance follows India’s recent refusal to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, citing security concerns and advocating for a hybrid model like that used in the Asia Cup.

PCB Chairman has repeatedly stated that the Champions Trophy 2025 will be hosted entirely in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, preparations for the event are progressing, with upgrades underway at Pakistani stadiums to meet international standards, supported by ICC funding.

Last week, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was informed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) about India’s decision not to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to be hosted in Pakistan.

Sources close to the matter indicate that this communication from the ICC has triggered a series of deliberations within the Pakistan government.

Government sources suggest that the Pakistani leadership is considering strong retaliatory measures in response to India’s refusal to send their cricket team to Pakistan.

One of the key considerations is that Pakistan will not play any future cricket matches with India until bilateral relations improve.

This includes all major tournaments, and it is being seen as a significant diplomatic response to India’s reluctance to engage in sports diplomacy.

Officials stressed that Pakistan has made extensive preparations to host the event, with new stadiums being constructed and heightened security measures in place to ensure the safety of all participants.

According to government sources, India’s refusal to come to Pakistan is without justifiable cause, as the conditions for hosting the tournament are ready.
