The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the deputy commissioner (east), police, and Rangers to remove encroachments from the land of a housing society and file compliance reports by November 14. The Pakistan Post Office Employees Cooperative Housing Society had filed a petition in 2021, stating that over 71 acres of its land in Scheme 33, Gulzar-i-Hijri, had been encroached upon since 2016.
In a separate matter, the SHC expressed serious resentment over the Sindh Building Control Authority’s (SBCA) inaction regarding the illegal construction of a building in Nazimabad. The court summoned the SBCA director general, directing the demolition of the building before the next hearing and seeking a compliance report. The court had issued several orders for the building’s demolition, noting the SBCA’s failure in discharging its statutory functions.
The bench emphasized the need for swift action, expressing dissatisfaction with the SBCA’s handling of the situation. The director general was summoned to appear before the court on November 7, along with details of officials posted in the district concerned, potentially facing anti-corruption action for their role in the matter.
