Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the Online Temporary Mobile Phone Registration system on Tuesday, providing a convenient facility for overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals. Under this system, applicants will be granted 120 days of free registration without the payment of custom duties.
The newly introduced system enables overseas Pakistanis, students studying abroad, laborers working overseas, and foreign nationals visiting Pakistan for tourism or business purposes to use their personal phones during their stay in the country. They can apply and avail the free registration facility for 120 days on each visit to Pakistan.
During the inaugural ceremony, PM Shahbaz Sharif highlighted the significant progress made by Pakistani youth in the field of Information Technology (IT). He emphasized the immense opportunities in the IT sector and urged the people of Pakistan to seize them. The government has allocated sufficient funds in the current budget for various youth programs, reflecting its commitment to supporting the growth of the IT industry.
PM Shahbaz Sharif also mentioned the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in Pakistan, aimed at attracting foreign investment and revitalizing the country’s economy. He referred to SIFC as a program for economic recovery, emphasizing the key role of the IT Ministry in achieving the set goals. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to promote IT parks in the country to enhance IT exports.
Furthermore, PM Shahbaz Sharif announced that a non-financial package would be announced in the coming days to further facilitate overseas Pakistanis. This package is expected to provide additional support and benefits to overseas Pakistanis, acknowledging their significant contributions to the country.
