Veteran Bollywood and Marathi actor Nana Patekar died on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa, according to Indian hospital officials and media reports.

Patekar was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, early Thursday morning and was taken to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. He was declared dead at around 5:20am.

Doctors Confirm Cardiac Arrest

Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed that Patekar suffered a cardiac arrest. However, the specific trigger behind the cardiac arrest was not immediately known.

A medico-legal case has been registered and a post-mortem examination is being conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Reports said Patekar had complained of feeling unwell during the early hours of Thursday. His friend later reached his residence, after which medical assistance was arranged and attempts were made to revive him.

Nana Patekar’s Acting Career

Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar began his career in Marathi theatre before making his mark in Hindi and Marathi cinema.

He made his film debut in the 1978 Hindi film “Gaman” and went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including “Parinda,” “Prahaar,” “Krantiveer,” “Tirangaa,” “Khamoshi: The Musical” and “Welcome.”

Patekar became known for his intense acting style, powerful dialogue delivery and ability to portray both serious and comic characters.

He also appeared alongside leading Bollywood stars, including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, during a career spanning several decades.

Awards and Recognition

Patekar was a recipient of three National Film Awards and was honoured with the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards.

His performances earned widespread recognition across Hindi and Marathi cinema, with his distinctive voice and intense screen presence becoming trademarks of his acting career.

Actor Akshay Kumar, who worked with Patekar in several films, paid tribute to the veteran actor, praising his intensity, individuality and authenticity as a performer.

Nana Patekar Survived by Wife and Son

Patekar is survived by his wife and son. He and his wife had been separated.

His death has prompted tributes from colleagues, filmmakers and audiences across India, marking the loss of one of the country’s most distinctive actors.
