Following the approval of the Finance Bill 2026 – 27 by the National Assembly (NA), the federal government has introduced an installment facility for the payment of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) taxes on imported smartphones.

The new provision was announced as part of the Finance Bill 2026–27 presented in the NA by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

Under the approved legislation, individuals required to pay taxes on imported mobile phone devices through the PTA’s Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) will be allowed to pay the applicable tax in installments according to the prescribed procedure.

According to the bill, all installments must be paid before the end of the financial year in which the mobile phone is imported.

The measure will apply to both new and used imported smartphones and is scheduled to take effect from July 1.

The installment facility is expected to provide greater flexibility to consumers seeking to register imported mobile devices under PTA regulations.

Earlier, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb dismissed concerns regarding Pakistan’s GDP calculations and economic statistics, stating that national accounts are compiled in accordance with internationally recognized standards.

Concluding the general debate on the Federal Budget 2026–27 in the National Assembly, the finance minister said national consensus was essential for sustaining economic recovery and continuing the reform process.

He stated that the government had presented a balanced, growth-oriented, and stability-focused budget, adding that key macroeconomic indicators had shown improvement during the past year.

Responding to concerns raised by lawmakers regarding alleged discrepancies in budget documents and national income data, Aurangzeb said there had been no change in the methodology used to calculate GDP, per capita income, or other national account indicators.
