The federal government has officially announced three public holidays for Eidul Adha 2026, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approving the holiday schedule for May 26, 27 and 28.

A formal notification has been issued confirming the holiday schedule, ensuring uniform observance across all government and private offices nationwide.

According to the notification, May 26 has been declared a public holiday to mark the Day of Hajj (Yawm-ul-Arafah, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah), while May 27 and 28 will be observed as the first and second days of Eidul Adha.

The third day of Eid, falling on May 29 (Friday), will be a normal working day for government and private employees nationwide.

Extended Weekend for Employees

Government and private employees are likely to enjoy an extended holiday break this year. With Sunday, May 25, followed by only one working day on Monday, employees will then get three consecutive public holidays for the Day of Hajj and Eidul Adha from Tuesday to Thursday.

After a working Friday on May 29, another weekend on Saturday and Sunday will give employees an additional two-day break, creating a lengthy holiday stretch overall.

The extended holiday period is likely to give families ample time for celebrations, travel and festive gatherings across the country.

Essential service departments, including emergency and utility services, are expected to continue operations during the holiday period as per standard practice.
