The Senate of Pakistan was informed that construction work on the long-awaited Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway is expected to begin during the current year.

Speaking during the Senate session, Abdul Aleem Khan said three out of the motorway’s five sections have already received approval, while the tendering process for the project has also started.

The communications minister stated that efforts are underway to improve the revenue generation capacity of the National Highway Authority (NHA) to ensure better maintenance and development of road infrastructure across the country.

During the session, Chaudhry Salik Hussain informed the house through a written reply that the government is taking multiple measures to create new overseas employment opportunities for Pakistanis.

He said Pakistan has expanded labour mobility avenues through bilateral agreements with different countries.

The minister highlighted a recent memorandum of understanding signed with Italy, under which approximately 3,500 Pakistani workers will receive employment opportunities annually for three years.

According to the minister, the jobs will be available in sectors including agriculture, construction, healthcare, hospitality, logistics, and information and communication technology (ICT).

The Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway is considered a critical section of Pakistan’s motorway network connecting Karachi with upper Sindh and other regions.

The project has faced delays for years despite repeated demands from transporters, businesses, and political leaders for improved road connectivity and safer travel routes.
