Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has warned that printing press involved in producing “Karachi Ko Haq Do” banners may face action, including possible sealing of their businesses.

Speaking at a ceremony, the mayor criticized the campaign’s political messaging, stating that placing such banners across the city would not help resolve Karachi’s long-standing civic issues.

“I am considering holding a meeting with the administration regarding the matter, in which it will be decided that all printing presses involved in putting up such banners will be sealed,” he said.

During his address, Wahab also announced the provision of 20 electric motorcycles for the vigilance squad of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), highlighting steps toward improved monitoring and promotion of green energy.

The mayor stated that wardens previously assigned to protocol duties have now been shifted to the vigilance squad, which will focus on public service and enforcement activities across Karachi.

He added that the squad will monitor illegal posters, wall chalking, banner installations, theft of streetlights, and damage to public infrastructure. It will also take action against drug use in public spaces, including under bridges.

Wahab emphasized that development projects carried out by KMC are often damaged or misused, which prompted the formation of the vigilance squad to protect city infrastructure.

He clarified that the newly provided electric motorcycles are not for official protocol but will be used by KMC staff across different areas to enhance operational efficiency.

Highlighting environmental initiatives, the mayor said Karachi is gradually shifting toward green energy. He noted that the KMC building has already been converted to solar power, while hospitals and pumping stations are also being transitioned to solar energy.

The mayor further claimed that several key development projects, including Lyari Transformation and Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan, were completed by KMC, though others have taken credit for them. He concluded by calling for political unity, stressing that rivalry should not hinder Karachi’s development and progress.
