Karachi has been officially designated as the host city for the 35th National Games, which are scheduled to take place from December 6 to 13, 2025. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, during a meeting with a high-level delegation from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) at the CM House. The 35th National Games, originally scheduled for May 1-9 in Karachi, was postponed due to ‘unavoidable circumstances
The meeting, which included POA President Arif Saeed, Senior Vice President Ms. Fatima Lahori, Secretary General Khalid Mehmood, and Sindh Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput, marked a significant step toward promoting sports excellence and athlete development in Sindh. Principal Secretary to the CM Agha Wasif and Sports Secretary Aleem Laghari were also present, along with Secretary Abdul Aleem Lashari, who provided a detailed briefing on the ongoing preparations, logistics, and planning for the upcoming games.
CM Murad Shah expressed his commitment to ensuring that the National Games are organized to international standards. He directed all relevant departments to provide essential facilities for athletes, including training, medical care, transportation, and modern infrastructure. In a notable development, he announced plans for the construction of a new swimming pool and the acquisition of modern electronic timing and scoring systems.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the POA, the Government of Sindh, and the Sindh Olympic Association to establish a coordinated framework for organizing the games. CM Shah emphasized that this initiative would be a milestone for athlete welfare and institutional coordination, highlighting the importance of nurturing young talent and promoting a broader interest in sports across the province.
POA President Arif Saeed briefed the Chief Minister on the history of the National Games and praised the government’s commitment to their development. He noted that the upcoming event has already generated renewed enthusiasm among athletes nationwide.
Both the Government of Sindh and the POA reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing athlete performance and making the 35th National Games a landmark event in Pakistan’s sporting history.
