Karachi, Pakistan’s biggest city and business hub, offers many facilities but also faces serious issues like vehicle fraud and number plate tampering.
To tackle this growing concern, the Sindh government has launched new smart registration cards and modern number plates with security features for cars and motorcycles.
These modern number plates aim to protect citizens from fraud during the buying and selling of vehicles and to assist law enforcement.
Here is a step-by-step guide to apply online for new vehicle number plate in Sindh.
The citizens can easily begin the process from home by visiting the official website of the Sindh Excise Department at https://excise.gos.pk.
- Go to the website: Open the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department’s website: https://taxportal.excise.gos.pk/home/quick_pay.
- Enter Vehicle Details: Fill in your mobile number and car registration number.
- Choose Number Plate: Select the “number plate” option in the next line.
- Ensure Tax is Up-to-Date: Make sure your motor vehicle tax is up-to-date, as the requisition for a new number plate won’t proceed otherwise.
- Fill in Address and Details: Fill in your address, name, and other required details.
- Generate PSID: Generate the PSID and note the amount, which will be Rs. 2,450 and motorcycle owners will pay Rs. 1,450, according to the Sindh Excise Department.
- Pay Online: Pay the PSID via ATM, Easypaisa, or take a printout and submit it at a bank mentioned on the website.

Once payment is successful, you will receive an SMS with a link to the invoice. Save and print this invoice for future use.
The last date to obtain these Ajrak-designed number plates is May 15, 2025, which is recently been extended from April 03, 2025, after which further action may be taken against defaulters.
To check if your number plate is ready, repeat the earlier steps on the Sindh Excise website and check the “Number Plate” status.
