Pakistan blocks identity card, passport of Arshad Chaiwala

Pakistani internet star Arshad Khan, famously known as “Chaiwala,” has had his identity card and passport blocked by authorities.

According to the reports, NADRA and the passport office blocked Arshad’s documents because he failed to provide proof of Pakistani citizenship.

Arshad Khan became famous in 2016 when a photographer captured a candid photo of him selling tea in an Islamabad market.

The photo went viral online due to his striking blue eyes and charming look, making him an overnight sensation both locally and globally.

After his rise to fame, Arshad was offered modelling work and featured in media interviews, gaining support from people across the country.

He later opened a tea café named “Café Chai Wala” in Islamabad, decorated with truck art to reflect Pakistani culture and identity.

In 2020, during an interview, Arshad said the “Chaiwala” name gave him a unique identity that he proudly embraces.

Despite his popularity, Arshad is now facing legal trouble, as he claims he is being asked to prove residency before 1978.

To fight the decision, he has approached the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) through his lawyer, Umar Ijaz Gilani.

During the hearing, Advocate Gilani argued that Arshad represents the Pakistani dream – someone who rose from poverty to global fame.

The court has summoned the concerned authorities and asked them to present records on April 17 for further review.

Many people online have expressed disappointment over the treatment of Arshad, calling for justice and recognition of his contributions.

In interviews, Arshad has expressed interest in starting an organization to support youth education and skill development across Pakistan.

He believes young people should have the opportunity to learn and earn, just like he turned his fame into a business success.
