The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan offers a six-month research fellowship abroad for PhD students studying in Pakistan.
This program helps students improve their research quality and build connections with foreign universities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a Pakistani or AJK national enrolled in a full-time PhD program.
- Must have completed 18 credit hours of coursework.
- Can apply after 18 months and up to 3 years in the PhD program.
- Must have passed the GAT subject test or university admission test.
- Must have BASR/DASR approval for PhD research topic and synopsis.
- Must have an official acceptance letter from a top 200 ranked foreign university.
- Foreign supervisor must not be a former supervisor of the local PhD supervisor.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates must submit their applications through the HEC online portal (https://scholarship.hec.gov.pk). The application must include several important documents listed below.
Prepare Required Documents:
- Foreign university acceptance letter.
- CV of foreign and local supervisors.
- Approval letter from BASR/DASR.
- PhD research synopsis (complete).
- Recommendation letter from the local supervisor.
- NOC from HEC (if availing another scholarship).
- NOC from department (if employed).
- Passport copy and academic documents.
- GRE test result certificate.
Submit the Application: Ensure all documents are complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Await Selection: If selected, submit a hard copy of the application.
Fellowship Benefits:
- Travel Allowance: Return airfare up to $1300.
- Living Allowance: Varies by country (e.g., $1500/month in the USA).
- Bench Fee: Maximum $3500 (if mentioned in acceptance letter).
Important Notes:
Selected candidates must return to Pakistan and complete their PhD after the fellowship.
The award must be availed within six months from the issue date of the award letter, meanwhile, incomplete applications will not be considered.
The last date to apply for the 57th batch is March 30, 2025.
